As previously mentioned, each kilt is tailormade to fit your specific body measurements. When measuring yourself for a kilt it is important to have the correct "starting point". This is just above above the hip bone, usually in line with navel (belly button).
Waist
The following measurements may act as a rough guide to determining the length of your kilt. However, please bear in mind that these are standard measurements and do not take into account short or long leg lengths. BearTartan will always advise that you measure your own kilt length.
A rough guide to kilt lengths (in inches):
From this starting point measure around the stomach; this is the waist measurement. This measurement should be a firm, but comfortable measurement.
Note: this waist measurement is not the same as a trouser waist measurement, as the kilt is worn higher, the waist measurement is usually greater than the trouser measurement.
Seat
Take the widest area across the backside, and measure around, do not pull the tape measure tight, this should be a fairly loose measurement.
Length
Whilst kneeling on the floor and keeping your back upright. That is, not looking forward and down whilst taking the measurement, measure from the starting point ( just above the top of the hip bone....or from the belly button) to the floor. There is a temptation to lean forward to view the measurement but this causes an innacurate length measurement.
Alternately, you could get someone to assist you in this measurement. In this case, stand upright whilst they measure from the 'starting point', just above the top of the hip bone (usually in line with the belly button), and measure down the side of the body to the top of the knee.
